This circular hiking route will take us through the Maro–Cerro Gordo Natural Area and along its cliffs, rising imposingly above the Mediterranean waters of the Alboran Sea.
In other times, these mountains were home to bandits; their waters opened the way for pirates, and this coastline was the gateway to kingdoms made rich by their land and by ancestral knowledge—still felt today in the landscape.
Along the trail we will come across an old watchtower, still standing with its gaze fixed on the sea. We may be accompanied by Iberian wild goats along the way, we will spot hidden coves from above, and—almost concealed among the vegetation—we will also discover small tropical crops making their way across the hillside.
All of this under the constant glow of Mediterranean light, enjoying sea views from certain points of the route, with short stops along the way to regain energy and, if conditions and the group’s pace allow, considering the possibility of a stop closer to the sea.
