A complete and enjoyable route to get to know the true essence of Málaga’s Axarquía.
Our first stop will be the Ermita de los Remedios, a place that surprises every traveler with the impressive murals inside, popularly known as the local "Sistine Chapel." From its privileged location, we will enjoy the best panoramic views of the city, the valley, and the sea. We will continue by immersing ourselves in civil history with a visit to Beniel Palace and the Cervantes House-Museum, where the legacy of the famous writer intertwines with the nobility of Vélez's architecture.
We will stroll through the medieval layout of "La Villa" the heart of the ancient muslim medina. Here, we will visit the Nasrid Mihrab, a testament to the Islamic past, and the Church of Santa María, where we will be struck by its spectacular Mudejar coffered ceiling. We will climb up to the remains of the Fortress to overlook the city before heading down through the old Jewish quarter to the Plaza de la Constitución, where the colossal walls of the old granary and the Felipe II Fountain tell stories of eras of splendor.
After exploring the historic center and visiting the CAC (Contemporary Art Center) and the Archaeological Museum, you will have free time to enjoy the excellent local gastronomy. As a finishing touch, we will head to the Port of Caleta de Vélez. A walk along the pier will allow us to see the lively daily routine of its fishing fleet up close and enjoy one of the most authentic maritime corners of Málaga before our return journey.
