Malaga has ceased to be just the heart of the Costa del Sol, consolidating itself as one of Europe’s most vibrant cultural capitals. With the arrival of the autumn and winter season, the city transforms: temperatures become incredibly mild and its museums deploy a truly attractive exhibition programme.
If you are planning a getaway and want to know what to see in Malaga over the coming months, Travel Factory Andalucía brings you a selection of the greatest artistic highlights. Furthermore, we will show you how to combine these cultural visits with our exclusive small-group excursions to discover the true Andalusian essence.
The Museo Picasso Málaga presents the season's main event: the temporary exhibition Munch-Picasso. Influences and Affinities (available from 30 October 2026 to 28 February 2027). For the first time, more than a hundred works will bring Edvard Munch and Pablo Picasso face-to-face in a historic encounter, exploring the emotional bonds and avant-garde movements that transformed modern art.
Do not miss the permanent collection Pablo Picasso: structures of Invention either—a perfect window into the creative methods of the Malaga-born painter.
Until 21 February 2027, the Museo Carmen Thyssen Málaga hosts "¡Olé! The myth of the Spanish through Andalusia". Through 75 masterpieces by painters of the stature of Sorolla, Goya, Zuloaga, and Romero de Torres, the exhibition analyses how Andalusian culture, folklore, and landscapes shaped the imagery and identity of the whole of Spain before the rest of the world.
The avant-garde complex of the old Tabacalera factory continues to surprise. In the renovated MEET space (Tabacalera Exhibition Space), you can enjoy the prestigious José María Castañé Collection, while the rooms of the Russian Museum Collection feature the delicate tribute exhibition Anna Pavlova: A Life Without Borders (available until 31 December 2026), a unique journey through the legacy of the legendary ballerina.
Malaga is the ideal starting point, but the magic of Andalusia is also hidden within its landscapes, its white villages, and its historic monuments. At Travel Factory Andalucía, we specialise in semi-private experiences (maximum 8 people), as well as private, bespoke and tailor-made tours, allowing you to explore the region from a different perspective.
If you are coming to enjoy the art in the capital, we suggest connecting your visit with one of our star excursions:
Ronda and Setenil de las Bodegas (A Land of Contrasts): after soaking up Andalusian art at the Thyssen Museum, a great idea would be to discover Ronda—the cradle of Romanticism—and marvel at the famous cave houses integrated into the rocks of Setenil de las Bodegas.
Nerja, Frigiliana and El Acebuchal (Visual Harmony): discover the Mediterranean light in Nerja, lose yourself in the Moorish-style streets of Frigiliana, and travel back in time with El Acebuchal, a hidden village with a history as striking as it is iconic.
Private Tours to Andalusia’s Great Jewels: would you like to visit the imposing Alhambra in Granada or the Mosque-Cathedral of Córdoba? We design bespoke and tailor-made itineraries with direct departures from both Malaga city centre and the wider province.
This winter, treat yourself to a trip that combines the mysticism of avant-garde art in Malaga’s museums with the natural charm of its surroundings. Forget about overcrowded buses and rushing around; travel at our pace, in small groups, with guides who are passionate about local history.
